What an honor to present the first Texas Tech University Braden Joplin Memorial Scholarship to Hope Brookshire. This kid has the biggest heart and brains and will do great things in her lifetime. As I walk through the Texas Tech Campus, I feel Braden everywhere I go, it feels like he’s not even gone. Braden Joplin was like a mirror. You could see his reflection and it just shined throughout the community. His words and leadership influenced my character to achieve endless amounts of gratitude and selfless acts of kindness. To accept this honor, I humbly acknowledge that I myself, could not EVER fit in Braden’s shoes, but could graciously glide beside him with his words of faith and determination. The soul of one’s heart can spread and flow throughout the many faces and minds of those who will prosper and benefit the miraculous knowledge, of experience and truth. And that was Braden, his soul spread throughout. He was passionate and taught me to be. There comes a time in one’s journey to overcome, to achieve, to prosper and to learn. No one can determine what the next day will bring, but there are always endless possibilities. He taught me a few things, these things I will never forget: Always look for the good in other people and see the kindness within them, Find love in your heart to give, and Do everything with great effort and determination.
